A rim sherd of a ceramic shell tempered vessel probably of Roman date. The fabric is hard and has a hackly texture with prolific poorly sorted shell and grit inclusions (calcite gritted). It is dark grey internally and in the core, shading to reddish brown on the external face. The vessel has a rim diameter of about 380mm and has a very slight irregular bead rim. There is decoration on the outer face of two rows of widely spaced diagonal grooves. A similar single row is on the inside of the rim.
