Object type certainty: Certain

Copper alloy rectangular openwork Medieval mount, c. 13th-14th Century. The central motif is of a lion passant regardant. The lion is also slightly moulded and enclosed by a plain rectangular frame to which it is joined at various suitable points, creating irregular apertures between the lion and the frame. The frame is broken along the top edge. There are four small circular apertures, one at each corner of the frame, one of which retains the iron rivet, with two others retaining traces. The reverse is generally flat and undecorated, although the body of the lion is slightly concave. Patchy mid green patina.
