Roman (1st to 2nd century) Trumpet brooch: The copper alloy brooch's head is incomplete, therefore the spring, lug/s and spring are missing. The bow leads from the centre of the head and is semi-circular in section and the upper portion is undecorated with the exception of a triple-ribbed moulding at the apex of the bow. This ribbing is visible on the reverse of the bow, but is flattened in profile. The bow continues below this decoration, but is now narrowed and has a trace of the catchplate on the reverse before it is broken. The lower portion of the bow is decorated with two columns of shallow oval cells which may not be deep enough for enamel. Here the bow is more triangular in section rather than semi-circular. The brooch has an abraded surface with a matte dark brown coloured surface. It weighs 8.8g, and measures 9.83mm wide and 49.79mm long.
The brooch is a Trumpet-headed type, possibly a Group D type which date to the late 1st to mid 2nd century (Bayley and Butcher, 2004; 163).
