A complete copper alloy finger ring with embossed decoration, probably of post-medieval date (1500 to 1800 AD). The finger ring consists of a wide copper alloy hoop with a flat rectangular cross-section and relief decoration all around the circumference. The decoration consists of a continuous interlace made up of two lines crossing over and under each other to form a series of lozenges approximately every 6mm. The raised line of one strand is broken to allow the other strand to pass over it. There are further indistinct relief motifs within the lozenges and in the spaces above and below.
The interior of the ring is plain and undecorated. No inscription is present. The ring measures: 17mm external diameter, 16.5 mm internal diameter, 4.65 mm width and 0.40 mm thick. It weighs 0.9 grams. The ring is mid to dark green colour.
Most rings with a wide hoop and all-over decoration are dated to the post-medieval period (e.g. YORYM-834684, WMID-6EF4CB, WMID-BF5528, LEIC-0A9FAF) although there are some with an earlier date (e.g. WMID-386A98, WMID-FC47F8, WMID-3EDEA3). There is little clear evidence for either period, although the decoration and patina of most examples argue for a post-medieval date.
