Post Medieval lead alloy cloth seal, of two disc type, from Augsburg. Both disks remain, attached at the centre by the rivet. The edges are chipped and broken all the way around and connecting strip has broken away. The front has a raised design of a large letter A. This side was the ring shaped disc while the back disc had the integral rivet. On the back is a pinecone in an arched tressure within a double line border. It is now 19.6mm in diameter, 4.2mm thick and it weighs 8.98 grams.
The 'A' and pinecone design indicates it originates from Augsburg, Germany; the pinecone is the heraldic badge of the city (Egan 2004, 106). Egan provides parallels (ibid.) nos. 308-10, suggesting such seals were attached to fustians and dated to the 16th or 17th century.
