An incomplete Roman copper-alloy Colchester derivative Dolphin type brooch dating to the period c. AD 50 - 100. It is missing the pin, the hinge mechanism and part of the catch plate. It measures 35.94mm in length, 18.47mm maximum width, 1.66mm minimum width and weighs 5.11g. The wings are rectangular in plan and D-shaped in cross-section. They are each decorated with a single longitudinal groove running along the outer edge of each wing. The head terminates in a transverse groove which separates it from the underside of the brooch where the remains of the hinge mechanism are still visible as a D-shaped knop with a hole drilled either side which would have accomodated the hinge. The bow extends back from the head and tapers along its length. The catchplate extends from the reverse of the bow and is largely intact.
The brooch is similar in design to Hattatt, pp. 299, fig. 359.
