A silver Post Medieval coin; a half groat of Charles I (1625 - 1649), Group D. See North number 2256 or 2257. The coin is pierced from the obverse at 4o'clock on the obverse. This allows the reverse to hang the correct way up if suspended from the hole, and the hole avoids the monarch's head on the obverse, but there is no other evidence of the coin having been converted into an object.

Notes:

This coin does not meet the requirements of the 1996 Treasure Act because, although the piercing respects the orientation of the reverse, pierced coins of this date are known in hoards suggesting that they remained in circulation and in use as a coin despite being pierced. Therefore, the piercing alone is not enough evidence to support such coins being considered as Treasure.
