An incomplete copper alloy bow and fantail brooch of Roman date. Only the triangular fantail survives which is decorated on the upper surface with a triskele design. The catchplate remains projecting from the reverse of the fantail.
The metal has a dark reddish-brown patina and is worn. The brooch is 24.9mm long, 16.8mm wide, 5.5mm thick and weighs 2.2g.
Similar examples can be seen in Hattatt, p.315, fig.174 and are dated to the 1st-2nd century AD.
