A fragment of a Roman silver finger ring, missing the hoop and parts of both shoulders. A raised oval moulding occupies most of the otherwise flat bezel, its upper surface decorated with an equal-armed cross comprised of two pairs of parallel grooves. Both outer edges of the bezel have been 'toothed'. The straight sides of the shoulders converge towards the points of the breaks, the outer edges of each incised to create a ropework border with inner groove.
Surviving width of hoop: 16.9mm; width of bezel: 10.46mm; thickness: 3.5mm.Weight: 3.02g.
This is part of a finger ring, probably of keeled type, a typical 3rd century form (see Johns 1996: 48 - 49). A complete parallel for this form is provided by Treasure case 2003 T406 from Wallington, Hertfordshire (TAR 2003: 49).
