Fragment of Late Saxon bridle cheek-piece, worn and corroded, comprising an elaborate openwork arm in the form of the body and curved neck and head of a dragon-like monster, with ears and snout and open mouth. Engraved interlaced possible limbs and tail at the base, and two large perforations. Broken across the remains of another large perforation on the original inside edge. Surviving length 55mm. Width 35mm. 4mm thick. Weighs 29.89g. Cf. broadly similar types in Pedersen 1996-7, fig.4. Williams' (2007) Type 1. Very close to an example from Martham, Norfolk (NMS-D0B152). 11th century.
