Denarius of Diva Paulina, wife of Maximian I (AD 235-8), dating to AD 236 (Reece Period 11), CONSECRATIO, Peacock facing with spread tail. Mint of Rome. RIC IV, pt 2, p. 153, cf. no. 1; BMC VI, p. 233, cf. no. 135.  weight 2.73g, The recorder suggested that the black colouring means it might be a cast copy, but the features seem sharp and the surface does not immediately suggest casting. However, the A above Paulina's head does merge with the beading and the overall look of the coin is quite glossy. Finally, the weight of 2.73g is slightly light, three denarii in the British Museum weighing 2.99, 3.08 and 3.79g. Without actually seeing the coin and carrying analysis it will not be possible to resolve this issue with certainty. The obverse die does appear to match Heritage World Coin Auctions - Hong Kong Signature Sale 3087 (18 12 2020), lot 30046; however the reverse is of the other Paulina type.
