A cast copper alloy fragment, possibly from a Roman trumpet brooch dating from AD75-175. The damage occurred in antiquity. In plan, the fragment is a bar with a bulbous centre. Both ends of the bar have rounded terminals. The fragment is circular in section. The surfaces of the fragment are worn due to movement in the plough soil. The fragment has an even mid green patina.
The fragment is possibly from the central section of a trumpet brooch bow. A complete example of a trumpet brooch with a comparable bow is recorded under reference YORYM-FA1705. Similar examples of trumpet brooches are illustrated in Bayley, J. and Butcher, S. 2004, p. 160-164.
Length: 25.54mm. Diameter: 11.81mm. Weight: 9.5g.
