The fabrics are mostly tempered with fine or small crushed flint and fired to have either a light or dark grey core. Most of the sherds have an orangey or buff outer with dark inner wall; mica specks can be seen in most sherds. There appears to be several vessels represented but all sherds are heavily abraded. The fabric and appearance of the sherds suggest a later prehistoric date, c. 400 BC - AD 43. Several pieces of prehistoric pottery spanning the late Bronze Age to late Iron Age, of which these are some, were recovered from a small area around Brightwell Barrow in the 1920s.The British Museum hold the collection of finds excavated in the 1920s.
