A cast lead-alloy steelyard weight, missing its loop and possibly dating from the Roman period.
The top end of the sub-ovoid weight has a rectangular-sectioned hole; projecting horizontally from three of the four sides of this hole is another hole. There is no evidence of iron staining or copper-alloy, either internally or externally. The vertical hole has some distortion at the edge, probably as a result of post-depositional damage; it measures approximately 6.52 mm by 10.91 mm and penetrates 24.21 mm into the body. The weight has a greyish white patina which has a silky sheen. Height 33.51 mm. Diameter 29.30 mm. Weight 140 grams.
