Eight Post Medieval (c. 1500 to 1850) cast lead uniface tokens.

1. and 2. The design consists of a cross overlaying two concentric rings - possibly Powell Type 31. The reverse is undecorated. The surface is a matte dark grey colour for one and an oxidised cream colour for the second. The tokens measure 14.85mm diameter, 2.09mm thick, weighs 2g and 15.25mm diameter, 2.2mm thick, weighs 1.9g.

3., 4. and 5. The design consists of two concentric rings with radiating lines from the centre - possibly Powell Type 3. The reverse is undecorated. The surface is a matte light to dark grey colour and an oxidised cream colour. The tokens measure 27.13mm diameter, 3.23mm thick, weighs 10.8g; 17.19mm diameter, 1.78mm thick, weighs 2.5g; 16.84mm diameter, 2.33mm thick, weighs 3.3g.

6. The design consists of a six-petalled flower - Powell Type 1. The reverse is undecorated. The surface is a matte mid brown/grey colour. The tokens measure 26.2mm diameter, 4.46mm thick, weighs 18.6g.

7. The design consists of possibly a stick person wearing a full skirt with their arms outstretched with a pellet beneath each coin - possibly Powell Type 32. The reverse is undecorated. The surface is a matte mid brown/grey colour. The tokens measure 17.5mm diameter, 2.1mm thick, weighs 1.7g.

8. The design is indistinguishable but consists of two double strands. The reverse is undecorated. The surface is an oxidised cream colour. The tokens measure 13.04mm diameter, 2.55mm thick, weighs 2.9g.

Lead tokens had a wide variety of potential uses such as use as tallies, gaming pieces, tickets, weights, etc. and are believed to have been locally produced; they are therefore difficult to date precisely. Those carrying initials are generally deemed to be Post Medieval in date (1500-1850 AD), those which seem to mimic Medieval penny designs are deemed to be Medieval, the remainder which carry stylised designs remain difficult to date but the majority are probably Post Medieval in date c.1500-1800. Powell (2012) comments that Type 1, 31, and 3 are designs which were commonly made stock and occur in large quantities, dating to the late 16th to mid 19th centuries.
