An incomplete copper-alloy Roman Hod Hill brooch. It is missing parts of the head, axis bar, pin and base of the foot due to old breaks. The brooch has a flattened rectangular head with terminals that roll forwards to hold in place the now missing axis bar. At the juncture of head and bow is a single transverse rib. Beneath this extends the bow, which is flat, rectangular in form and extands towards the foot. It has moulded decoration on its front face comprising three prominent vertical ribs separated by shallow flutes, with single projecting hemispherical knops to each side at the base of the bow. At its base the bow constricts to a narrow transverse moulding from which extends the foot. This is flat, lozenge shaped, and missing its terminal end due to old breaks. The remains of an integrally cast catchplate are present on the back face of the foot, but this is also incomplete due to old breaks. The entire object measures 37.86mm in length, 23.84mm in width at side knobs, 11.44mm in width at bow, 2.91mm in thickness at bow, and 4.57g in weight.
This is an incomplete Roma Hod Hill brooch. It finds parallels in examples from Hacheston (Blagg et al., 2004: nos. 14, 16, 19) and is of 1st century AD date, c.43-100 AD.
