A cast copper-alloy zoomorphic spout probably from a ewer of later Medieval to Post-Medieval date. It is tubular in form with a stylised dog's head terminal that has an open mouth through which the tube/spout protrudes. The dog has an upturned nose with heavy brow and projecting rounded ears that have concave mouldings. Behind the ears the spout narrows before expanding to a downwards curving and tapering neck that has an open top, traces of possible solder visible on the flattened upper surfaces of the neck indicative of where it would have originally attached to the ewer itself. The entire object has a worn dark green patina with corrosive copper-alloy products in places. It measures 66.89mm in length, 46.46mm in height, 16.54mm in width, 15.83mm in thickness, 10.51mm in external diameter at the spout, and 43.78g in weight.
This is a zoomorphic spout for attachment to a ewer and similar to published examples (Lewis, 1987: fig. 8a) and several similar parallels recorded through the PAS (e.g. HAMP-105444, HAMP-332414 or SUR-415E80). It is of later Medieval to Post-Medieval date, c.15th-16th centuries AD.
