COIN HOARD

Unique ID: NMS-0F1E88

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

Description: 54 silver denarii ranging in date from issues of the Roman Republic to those of Tiberius. The coins were found scattered over a relatively small area and represent additions to the first part of this hoard found in 2012 (NMS-A00F04). As with the first part of the hoard, dating is difficult and all that can be safely said is that this hoard was deposited at some point from the Roman invasion of Britain in AD43 and the Boudiccan revolt in 61. The lack of any coins of either Caligula or Claudius in this second batch perhaps suggests that the deposition or loss of this hoard lies earlier in that range rather than later.
