Pointed-oval copper-alloy seal matrix. The central motif is of a forward facing angel, with lowered outreached arms, and four wings; two wings cross, across the body; the other two are shown vertically placed, behind the body. The legend around starts with an initial cross and then S' IOhANNIS LE PEITEVIN (Seal of John the Poitevin). The final N has an additional small vertical bar. The legend is shown within a beaded border. The reverse of the object is flat and undecorated, but has a rounded suspension loop towards the top of the matrix.
Le Peitevin is a known family name and features in medieval documents, but Iohannis was not traced during a quick online survey. Reaney and Wilson list 'le Peitevin' under the entry for Poidevin, and note that it means a person from Poitou in France.
