Medieval copper alloy horse harness pendant, shield-shaped, surface corroded, suspension loop with internal wear at upper edge. Length 39.5mm. Width 24mm. Red and black enamel survives. Blazon: Quarterly ?Or/?Argent and Gules on a bend Sable three mullets of six points ?Or/?Argent. A number of families share these arms, possibly for ASHLEY (Quarterly Argent and Gules on a bend Sable three mullets Argent), CLAVERING (Quarterly Or and Gules on a bend Sable three mullets Argent) or RYCROFT (Quarterly Argent and Gules on a bend Sable three mullets Or) see Woodcock Grant and Graham 1996, p. 51. 13th-14th century.
