A complete Medieval cast copper alloy harness pendant. The pendant is an elaborate quatrefoil in shape with a circular integral suspension loop off set at ninety degrees. The front is decorated with five roses or cinquefoils within an indented elaborate cross which is inlaid with red (gules) enamel - gules a cross engraved with five roses or cinquefoils. This is similar to the arms of Edington or Edmondes. The pendant is 46.63 mm high, 39.01 mm in width and weighs 16.04 grams. It dates to the 13th or 14th century.
Notes:
Arms: Edington or Edmondes (possibly)
Nick Griffiths comments:
The priory at Edington is the likely candidate. It is not an Augustinian priory as listed but a priory of the Bonhommes (one of only two in England) located in Wiltshire. The arms are also given as Edmondes of Essex although the source is post-medieval and the arms are most likley disused medieval arms being reassigned in the 17th or 17th century.
This has been noted as an interesting find by the recorder.
