Incomplete and very distorted Late Saxon/medieval gilt unidentified buckle, ring with opposed projections on outside edge, one with animal-head terminal, the other missing, both originally bent inward to form hook. Opposed notches on reverse set at right-angles to projections contain a separate bar. Distorted 27mm x 19mm. See an example from London (F. Pritchard in Vince (ed.) Aspects of Saxo-Norman London: II (1991) 151-2, fig.3.34 no.107). Other related examples, brooches, 'mounts' and buckles, have been recorded in Norfolk, including from Beeston with Bittering (HER 4084), Coltishall (HER 28860), Ingham (HER 50272), Outwell (HER 41077), Wiveton (HER 25862) and Wymondham (HER 37333). 11th-12th century.
