An incomplete Medieval to Post-Medieval (1350-1600) copper alloy double oval buckle frame, missing its pin. It measures 29.70mm in length, 23.40mm in width and weighs 3.33g. Both loops are angled upwards from the central bar.
Examples of this type of buckle frame from London (Egan and Pritchard 1991 nos.331 to 342) date from the second half of the fourteenth to the second half of the fifteenth century, but as the form persists a later date cannot be ruled out.
This example is decorated on the front outside edges of the frame with diagonal grooves and ridges forming a triangular pattern. A close parallel can be found in Whitehead (1996, 60 no.354).
