A cast copper alloy coin or bullion weight dating from the post-medieval period AD1700-1770. It is uniface, circular and flat; the upper surface is inscribed with a numeral 6 above the letter S.

At 2,63 grams in weight it is closest to the coin weight used to weigh the Portuguese quarter moidore (2.66gm) which circulated in England with a value of 6 shillings and 9 pence. The coin weights are usually marked S over 6 and D over 9, but on this example, the 6 is over the S and the D and 9 are missing.

An alternative explanation is that the coin is marked S over 9, though the S looks to be the wrong way up when read this way. Another Portugese coin, the escudo or quarter joe circulated in England with a value of 9 shillings. If the weight is to measure a quarter joe, it should have a mass of 3.58g. The weight is corroded and worn, so it could have lost mass. Either way, the stamping of the weight has not been done well.

It is 15.2mm in diameter and 1.9mm thick.
