An incomplete cast copper alloy strap fitting or strap slide loop, probably dating to the early Roman period (c. AD 43-200). The strap slide has a decorative head of an ornate flower or shell with extending lobe. The decoration is split over two levels and appears incomplete. The rounded lobe has a hollowed centre and it may have once contained enamel or coloured paste. On the reverse is a rectangular loop. Similar strap loops are recorded from the late Iron Age and Roman periods as well as the medieval period, however the style and ornate mouldings suggest a Roman date. No direct comparison could be found.
