A cast copper-alloy heraldic harness pendant of Medieval date. It is shield-shaped in form with an integrally cast oval suspension loop set at right angles to the plane of the plate and with a central circular aperture. The front face of the plate has enamelled and gilded or silvered decoration carrying a heraldic device. This depicts a lion rampant left on a blue enamelled field, over which is a red diagonal band with three five-pointed stars or mullets that appears to have originally been gilded or silvered. The heraldry might be interpreted as: Azure, a lion rampant [Or or Argent], over all a bend Gules charged with three [mullets?] Or or Argent. It measures 36.56mm in length, 22.87mm in width, 2.24mm in thickness and 6.92g in weight.
This is a heraldic harness pendant of Medieval date. The heraldry has not as yet been closely identified, but finds similarities with the families of Boylan, Colvile and Weyland of Suffolk (Azure a lion rampant Argent debruised by a bend Gules). It is likely to be of 14th century AD date.
