A silver Post Medieval dress hook or cap hook, dating from about 1500 - 1700. The dress fitting has a lozenge shaped plate wich is decorated with incised lines leaving a four petelled flower in relief, within a lozenge border. The recessed areas have been filled with niello or another white metal to give a two tone effect. The plate is 0.8mm thick.

On the reverse is soldered the remains of a hook. Only the straight part survives, fixed across the centre of the plate. It is round in section at the break where the curve starts, but is then flattened where it is soldered to the plate. The curved part of the hook is missing.
