A body and base fragment of a Post Medieval shallow dish or bowl. The fragment has a flat base with a gently curving wall at a 45° angle. The wall then curves out abruptly at a 45° angle again towards the rim which is missing. The fragment has a regular form and rilling on the external surface suggesting it was wheel-thrown.
A glossy red-brown slip is on the internal surface of the vessel. Curved and zigzag decorative patterns have been painted on in a white-yellow colour. There are also some remains of a red-organge slip on the outer surface. The fabric is orange in colour with common voids and some sparse black small to medium inclusions.
The fabric and the decorative slip is an example of 17th century Metropolitan slipware, (AD 1630 to 1700).
