AXEHEAD

Unique ID: SF-9ADC83

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

An incomplete polished flint axehead of Neolithic date. It is missing the butt end, due to snapping.

It is struck from a mottled grey flint. It is broadly rectangular in form, pointed oval in cross section and flaring towards the crescentric cutting edge. The cutting edge has retouch/use wear present on both faces. Flake removal is present on the outer edges, likely caused through post-depositional damage. There are six areas of spalling, cause unknown.

This axe measures 101.21mm in length, 49.05mm in width at the cutting edge, 32.21mm in width at butt end, 19.01mm in thickness and 114.37g in weight.
