A late medieval silver-gilt 'iconographic' finger ring. The ring is broken into two pieces, one consisting of the bezel, shoulders and part of the hoop (fragment 1) and the other of the remainder of the hoop (fragment 2). The ring is formed of a bi-faceted ridged bezel and shoulders, engraved with incised lines and springs, with the incised lines decorating the bezel forming a star or star-burst design. The hoop is engraved with a ropework pattern.
This type of ring is usually known as iconographic, and commonly features religious imagery, but is also found, as in this case, with simple geometric or floral decoration. See for example, SUSS-21B403 (2004 T386), KENT-A0ED87 (2014 T336), IOW-B474A8 (2013 T423) and Treasure Annual Report 2000, nos 111-112.
The ring dates to the 15th or early 16th century.
