A complete copper-alloy Roman finger ring dating to the period AD 200-410 of Henig type IX. The hoop is polygonal in plan with eight external facets (octagonal); each has a green patina and is marked with an incised 'S'. In section, the hoop is rectangular. The ring measures 17.6mm internal diameter, 22mm external diameter, 4.9mm wide and 2.5mm thick, and weighs 3.88g. Henig (1974, 50) suggests that polygonal rings are a third century type while Crummy (1983, 49, ref. 1788) notes that polygonal hoops tend to be fourth century in date.
