A silver gilt late medieval to early post-medieval 'iconographic' finger ring. The band is complete with a bi-faceted bezel. The band is largely D-shaped in cross section measuring 1.58mm in depth and 4.26mm in width at its narrowest point. The bezel is triangular in cross-section, creating two facets which are decorated with engraved, hatched triangles. The shoulders of the hoop are engraved with a chevron above three perpendicular lines.
The style of this finger ring relates to late medieval finger-rings which are often engraved with images of saints on bi- or tri-faceted bezels, known as iconographic. Finger rings of this type decorated with simple geometric or floral decoration can also be found such as IOW-B474A8 and WILT-469F46.
The ring dates from the 15th century-early 16th century.
The finger ring measures 27.17mm diameter from side to side (25.57mm from front to back). The bezel measures 4.55mm thick by 8.54mm wide and 17.07mm along the top ridge of the facets. It weighs 8.03g.
