An incomplete probably early medieval glass spindle whorl dating to the period c. AD 410 - 1066. The spindle whorl is circular in plan and broadly D-shaped in cross-section with a hole through the middle. The glass is opaque in colour. The spindle whorl is of uneven thickness with a maximum thickness of 12.67mm and a minimum thickness of 9.12mm. The band width is also uneven with a maximum width of 14.38mm and a minimum width of 12.31mm. The areas of maximum band width are also the areas where the band is thickest. The spindle whorl exhibits some damage at the point where the band is thinnest. At this point it is chipped and cracked across the width of the band. The diameter of the spindle whorl is 35.68mm with an internal diameter of 9.58mm. It weighs 21.89g.
