HARNESS MOUNT

Unique ID: FAHG-1B2DA4

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

Early Anglo-Saxon circular mount, probably from horse-harness. The mount is decorated with a single band of triple-strand interlace with no heads or other zoomorphic elements. There is an outer ridged border, probably consisting of three ridges, and an inner single ridge dividing the interlace from a domed boss in the centre. The reverse appears corroded (perhaps with iron adhering) and there is no visible means of attachment. The interlace suggests a very late 6th- or early 7th-century date; compare an example from Sutton Hoo Mound 17 (Carver 2005, fig. 112, no. 25ci).
