An incomplete copper alloy buckle of Medieval date (AD 1200-1400). The object consists of a large sub-rectangular box plate with two, intact perorating rivets situated at the lower end of the plate. From the upper aspect of the plate, two partial, integral spurs project. These would have continued to for a loop, but terminate in an abraded break. The uppermost edge of the plate, situated between the two spurs shows clear signs of wear from the strap which the clasp held.
The plate as a decorative pattern consisting of two raised parallel longitudinally running lines below which is are a set of four latitudinally oriented lines with traces of repeating incised hatching between each line. The lower decoration is surrounded by an incised boarder which respects the edges of the plate. The reverse of the plate is smooth and undecorated with the exception of the two piercing rivets.
The metal is a mid-green in colour with a lighter green patina over some aspects.
