A worked bone point, possibly intended for use as an awl or similar item, of uncertain date. It is formed from an elongated bone of uncertain form, possibly a metatarsal or similar. At one end the bone has been filed to create a broad point that is triangular in profile and has a flattened rectangular tip. All surfaces towards the tip end have evidence of both transverse and longitudinal tool marks and are smoothly polished, perhaps as a result of use-wear. The entire object has a lustrous dark brown patina with some slight post-depsositional damage to the surviving joint end that has resulted in a small crack to one side of the object. It measures 91.41mm in length, 10.47mm in width (at shaft, 17.82mm at joint), 10.75mm in thickness, and 11.43g in weight.
This worked bone object finds parallels in other examples of bone points recorded from Suffolk (SF-BED1A1 and SF6517). These, combined with its findspot, might suggest a later prehistoric date range for the object (E. Martin, SCCAS, pers. comm.), although a later date range cannot be ruled out entirely.
