A Polden Hill type Roman brooch dating to between c. AD 80 and 120: The wings are semi-cylindrical, terminating with incomplete wing caps. The axis bar is possibly iron with an spring whose coils are not visible due to corrosion. The pin is missing. The wings are undecorated. At the edge of the wings and bow head there is a small intregral hook which holds the chord in place. The bow head is hump-like in profile and is undecorated. The bow is oval in section and tapers slightly to a broken edge just below the wings. This break and that of the wing are not recent. The surface of the brooch has a light grey/green coloured matte patina which is abraded. It measures 19.45mm long, 17.79mm wide across the wings and weighs 6.1g.
The brooch is a Polden Hill type. Bayley and Butcher (2004: p. 160) comment that the distribution of Polden Hill brooches are concentrated in the West Midlands and suggests they date to AD 80 to 120.
