Complete but worn copper-alloy distorted spiral made of an oval sectioned strip running through two complete loops and with tapered rounded ends. The strip itself is c.2.5-3.5mm wide by c.2.5mm thick and the spiral is 26-27mm in external diameter, excluding distortion and 21-22mm in internal diameter and approximately 10mm tall; it weighs 8.2 grams. Such a simple object form is hard to date precisely and possible parallels include objects from Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman and Early Medieval excavations or it may even be a more recent functional item. It has been suggested that they are crude snake shaped Roman finger rings (see HESH-626DC4 or HESH-D25E35). Despite being quite large in size for this purpose this item has been identified as a possible finger ring but remains undated, see SUSS-DD0786 for a readily comparable item.
