A cast copper-alloy flat handle fragment, incomplete due to old breaks, now worn. This handle is most likely derived from a large skillet. A fragment of the body of the vessel also survives. The handle is 90mm in surviving length and 36mm in width at the body end and it is tapering gently towards its missing terminal and measures 30mm in width at its incomplete terminal. It is 9.2mm thick.

On the top face of the handle there are two parallel sets of ring and dot motifs consisting of two concentric circular grooves with a circular dot in the centre of the inner circle. On the underside of the handle, where it joins the fragment of body there is an oval shaped hollow which runs through into the body of the vessel, this is likely to have been a casting flaw of some kind.

A very similar complete skillet, although a lot smaller, has been found in Norwich and has an identical handle, with the same ring and dot motifs decorating it. It is believed to be medieval and probably 14th century in date (Margeson 1993, 90-93, fig 75, no 562). It is therefore most likely that this incomplete handle is of a similar date.
