An incomplete copper alloy strap fitting / mount, of Post Medieval dating (AD 1500 to AD 1700).

The mount is in the shape of a five pointed star (mullet). The front and back are flat. No other decoration is present. The remnants of two integral attachment spikes are present on the reverse of the mount. Both attachment spikes have a circular cross section.

The mount measures 24.5 mm in length, 24.9 mm wide and 4.3 mm thick (including attachment spikes), 1.4 mm thick (not including attachment spikes). It weighs 2.3 g.

The mount is a mid green to mid brown colour, with an uneven surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail.

Several similar star shaped mounts have been recorded on the PAS database including: DENO-C4C800, LVPL-112D54, CORN-A8D3F3, SWYOR-FD5A53 and HAMP-3F77A4. All are considered to be of Post medieval dating (AD 1500 to AD 1700).
