An incomplete of a cast copper-alloy Roman button and loop fastener, probably dating to the 2nd century AD. Wild Class Vc. The fragment consists of the plain discoidal button head with a raised circular knop in the centre of the reverse indicating where the loop would have been affixed. The fastener is sub-triangular in cross-section in the centre and flat to wedge-shaped in cross-section throughout the button head, as the object rises in the middle of the reverse. It measures approximately 28 mm in diameter, 6.4 mm thick at centre and weighs 8.97 grams.
A similar type has been illustrated in Wild 1970, Fig. 1, Vc. Two additional examples have been recorded by this finder and in this area: SUSS-245D81 and SUSS-A08852. These items are often associated with Roman military dress and equipment.
