Copper alloy Brooch. Headstud Brooch, Mackreth type Headstud 5.a. Semi-tubular wings with vertical ribs or grooves on the front spring from a rectangular section bow with an annular stud above a broad zone of triangular cells which runs all the way down the surviving extent of the bow. There is a stub above the wings, whether for a hook or a top loop is uncertain. A pair of backward pointing lugs with a semi-circular aperture between them relates to the fastening gear (lost). The stub of a catch plate appears behind the lower bow. Suggested date: Early Roman, 75-125.
