Early Anglo-Saxon copper-alloy supporting-arm brooch (or Stutzarmfibel) dating to c. 420-c. 480 AD. The head is an inverted triangle with an obliquely angled reverse, which has perforated terminals which would have supported the axis, spring and pin. The top of the bow has two pairs of transverse linear groove as decoration before the bow arches and tapers to become rectangular in cross-section. Towards the base of the bow is a further pair of transverse grooves. The vertical foot is also decorated with a pair of transverse grooves, and on the reverse has a short, solid catchplate which is now incomplete. The terminal of the foot, beneath the catchplate, is very short and angled forward The surface of the brooch has a matte mid grey/green coloured patina. It measures 42.13mm long, 20.8mm wide and weighs 9.5g.
This brooch fits into Bohme's Typ Perlberg (Bohme 1974).
