A complete but distorted gold finger ring of medieval date. The finger ring has a large D-shaped bezel that is set with a dark coloured gemstone. The stone is held in place by a narrowing of the faceted bezel edge. The hoop of the finger ring is roughly D-shaped in cross section with a pronounced ridge around the middle of its length; the hoop is complete but distorted. The hoop appears quite large and it is possible that this finger ring was worn by a man or over a glove (or both). Similar examples are recorded on this database and illustrated in Egan & Pritchard (1991) and are dating by ceramic association to the second half of the 14th century (nos 1612 and 1613).
