Description: A complete silver post-medieval cuff-link, which would have formed one of a pair. The cufflink consists of two circular buttons with downward turned edges. The raised decoration on the front of each button consists of a flaming heart pierced by two arrows, which cross through the heart. The reverse of is plain, but integrally cast attachment loops are joined by a silver wire link.
Discussion: Cufflinks and buttons with this design are considered to have originally been produced to commemorate the marriage of Charles II to Catherine of Braganza (in AD 1662), but they did continue to be used as a general symbol of love and/or marriage after this date. Many similar items have been recorded on this database (including IOW-A50866, NMS-761DE7 and SUSS-611300), however they are seldom found complete and this example is noteworthy because of their completeness and condition.
