Silver possible buckle frame, as identified by the finder. A light single looped frame probably cut from sheet metal of thickness 1.1mm, with scalloped and slightly expanded outer edges. The symmetrical decoration recalls that of 18th-century knee or shoe buckles, though how this object could work is uncertain; there is no trace of a spindle or other provision for fastening, and it was clearly flimsy; perhaps a definition as a strap loop would be more satisfactory. The loop may simply have been threaded on a ribbon as a decorative costume feature. Now squashed. Suggested date: possibly Post-Medieval, 1720-1790.
