Small medieval copper alloy hinged plate-and-loop type book clasp (Howsam type A.1.1). Sheet hinged end folded widthways and containing the separate narrowed bar set in drilled holes in the sides of the separate cast terminal comprising an oval plate with a central perforation and stylised animal-head terminal with transverse perforation. The functions of the two holes have been explained by Egan (1998, 279). Combined length 30mm. Width 6mm. Thickness at terminal 5mm. 13th century.
