Lead spindle whorl. Cast plano-convex whorl with an originally central aperture of diameter 9.5mm, Walton Rogers form A1. Pne side of the whorl is broken, presumably at a casting flaw. Lightly patinated overall. The form resembles that of cattle femur whorls, and is especially characteristic of 10th-century deposits at Coppergate, York. The mass suggests a use plying cord. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 900-1000.
