Copper alloy harness pendant. Cast pendant comprising a central rectangular panel with projecting trefoils at its four corners and a hatched rectangular lug at the centre of each side, possibly suggesting a cross behind the armorial charge. A suspension loop is set above one of the latter lugs, at right angles to the display face. The central panel contains a relief depiction of a heater shaped shield bearing three leopards right, the Arms of England. Material adheres, though it is uncertain whether this is enamel, and what its original tint may have been. This complex form is especially characteristic of the East of England, and is dated to the later 14th century (S. Ashley 2002, Medieval Armorial Horse Furniture in Norfolk, East Anglian Archaeology 101, Norfolk Museums and Archaeological Service, Dereham, page 23, cf. fig. 23 no. 236). Suggested date: late Medieval, 1350-1400.
Height: 41.2mm, Width: 30.3mm, Thickness: 3.4mm, Weight: 9.39gms.
