An incomplete copper-alloy Medieval composite strap end. It is missing part of the spacer and the attachment end due to old breaks, now worn.
This is a tongue-shaped composite strap end with a spacer probably occupying the whole width. The front and back plate are rectangular in shape and taper towards a triangular shaped knop. There are copper-alloy circular rivets at the top and bottom of the strap end. Canvas fibres from the strap still remain between the plates at the attachment end.
This strap end measures 20.89mm in length, 13.41mm in width, 3.08mm in thickness, 2.08g in weight.
There is a similar example from London c. 1350-1400 (Egan and Pritchard, 1991, pp. 142, no. 660).
